Without over-production or any extra instruments to hand, rum.gold has created one of the most poignant tracks of 2020 in the form of ‘Fix Me’. Over nothing but sparse acoustic guitar arpeggios, his airy falsetto vocals manage to embody the sorrow and pain just about everyone in the world has felt since the murder of George Floyd. It’s the Brooklyn-based newcomer’s voice, however, that also adds a nuance of power and proves why he is one to watch. At the same time, his repeating lyrical cries of “I’m sorry” and “you can’t fix me” create an impactful sense of hopelessness. This one speaks for itself. - Dan Peeke
